Media Relations Strategies
The age of “no comment” is over.
Despite any of our best efforts, information has a way of finding its way to the public. We at Brick and Bridge Communications know that a positive working relationship can go a long way to supporting your organizational reputation in Alberta and beyond.

Just like you have a job, so too does the media corps. In good times and bad.
While it’s the good times we really love media attention, it’s during the challenging moments that emotions will rise. It’s for this reason that media relations strategies are vital to an organization’s portfolio.
Brick and Bridge Communications has experience on both sides of the media coin; first on the reporting side, and second working as media liaison and spokespeople for our organizations. We’ve been on the side of informing the public and being the ones with the information the public wants.

Media scrums are high energy, high tension events, and with proper training, can be a real benefit for your organization. This screenshot is taken from a Bloomberg Politics YouTube clip.
We take positive media events and crises communications hand in hand and recognize that both of these situations can help an organization. During one very public crisis event we managed, the media outlet that was our biggest critic ended up becoming our biggest advocate two years later as a result of our strategic media relations campaign.
It’s important to remember that media relationships are long term and while some organizations might fear news and influencer media, we work closely with these important stakeholders, treating each one with respect and care. Who knows, this kind of positive treatment might mean the difference between a one-sided review and a fair and balanced news story.
Remember this, we have a choice when working with news media, let’s choose the best route for both sides and help shape the conversation.
Reach out and let’s talk about your media relations needs.
